Welcome to our church – we’re glad you’re here!
Part of our mission here at Orenco Church is to care for our “community and beyond,” as our mission statement reads! And part of that care is to ensure everyone feels welcome, whether you’ve been a member of our church for 40 years, you’ve attended for just a few months, or you’ve never walked through our doors.
This is Holy Week! We are so excited about what we have planned. Give me a few moments to elaborate on a few events so that you can join us:
Join us on Maundy Thursday (Latin: mandatum, “command”) when we learn all about Jesus’ command to love one another and of course all of the reasons why! We begin with dinner prepared by our own Garry and Jaye of the Screamin’ Chicken in Gaston. Dinner is at 6:00 pm (all are welcome), and our communion service begins at 7:00 pm in the sanctuary. This is a special, reflective, and contemplative service. We remember Jesus’ last meal with his disciples before he went to the cross.
On Good Friday, we remember the day Jesus died, and so at 10:00 am we will view Mel Gibson’s film, “The Passion of the Christ.” Plan to spend a quiet time with us and a cup of coffee as we view this film. Before that – new to our schedule this year – there will be a special prayer station set up that looks at different areas of our lives. This is something you can do individually. This “House of Prayer” will open in the sanctuary at 9:00 am. Thank you to Naomi Kuest for putting this together for us!
Saturday’s Easter Egg Hunt begins at 10:30 am! All families are invited to come and join the fun. Be sure you bring an Easter basket to collect your candy! There will be some breakfast treats, as well, and we’re hoping for sunshine!
Finally, Sunday is our Easter Celebration! There are two services: 7:30 am and 10:00 am, each with a different message of Christ’s resurrection. In between, breakfast is served at 8:45 am. Thank you to the many volunteers working that morning to bring us a special time together.
We can’t wait to see you this week as we celebrate our Lord! Happy Easter to you and yours!
